Opimian
By Point Given
Not all horses after their race horse days are over, go on to a pasture. Many of them go on to other careers or disciplines. Many have a long history before they are permanently retired and Opimian (2003) is one of them. You see, he came to us with the name Crocadile, which was his “pony” name at the race track. Yes, many former race horses and trained to escort young race horses in the mornings at any track in America. Along the way they change barns and their race horse name can become lost along the way.
We decided to find out who the chestnut gelding was by checking his tattoo under his lip, we asked the Horse ID at Santa Anita to help us identify him. And they did.
Crocadile was Opimian who is the son of the great Point Given. Opimian was named for one of the premier wine making regions in Roman times. Opimian is like a fine wine, he is all class.
